A Mandolin Workshop
with Don Julin
Learn five jazz standards from the post-bebop era that use ii-V-I chord progressions.
Jazz Is Not Dead Vol. III: The ii-V-I Chord Progression is a workshop for the mandolin player drawn to the sound of 1950s (post-bebop) jazz.
The ii-V-I chord progression is one of the defining characteristics of this era.
Learning to recognize major and minor key versions of this cadence and how to play (improvise) through them will unlock many mysteries related to this jazz era.
The tunes I have selected for this workshop are easy enough for intermediates to learn but offer enough complexity for the more advanced player.
A basic understanding of music theory will be helpful as we will explore scales, licks, arpeggios, and various soloing ideas.
